- Metric pitch is entered as rise divided by run; US pitch is rise in inches per 12 inches of run.
- Entered length and width are horizontal plan dimensions; include overhangs only if they are part of those dimensions.
- Waste is user-defined and applied once to pitch-adjusted area.
- Valleys, dormers, flashing, penetrations, complex shapes, product coverage, and installation practice can change requirements.

Flat area = length × width
Pitch multiplier = √(1 + pitch ratio²)
Actual area = flat area × pitch multiplier
Required area = actual area × (1 + waste ÷ 100)
US rise-over-12 values divide by 12 to obtain the canonical rise/run ratio. The calculator does not estimate shingles, rolls, sheets, or bundles.
Verified example
10 m × 5 m plane at 0.25 pitch
The 50 m² flat area uses a 1.031 multiplier, producing 51.54 m². With 10% waste the estimate is 56.69 m².

Does it calculate complex roofs?
No. It models one rectangular plane only.

No. Product packaging and coverage vary, so the result remains an area estimate.
