Worked example
The default project plans four 720 mm rails and four 510 mm stiles from 2,400 mm stock, with a 3 mm kerf and 10 mm trim at each end. The displayed plan and losses come directly from the production engine.
Method and limitations
The engine sorts pieces deterministically, compares first-fit and best-fit decreasing plans, and selects the plan using the fewest stock lengths and then the least reusable offcut.
The result is an efficient heuristic rather than proven global optimization. Defects, knots, grain matching, angled cuts, clamping space, and workshop cut order are outside the model.
